UX OF READING I – DEAF-BLIND READING EXPERIENCES

For many centuries, humans have been reading books for the emotionally and aesthetically rewarding experiences they gain from doing so. Like many other experiences that are related to the arts, reading experiences are subjective, dynamic, and highly complex especially when it comes to individuals who suffer from deafblindness (Busselle & Bilandzic, 2008: Hamby et al., 2016).

While some people who live with deafblindness tend to be more independent than others, some go on about their daily lives with just a few minor adjustments by using technology aids. Others need more support from communicators guides or support workers who are with them every day to assist them with their daily tasks. However, for most people, simple attitude changes to how friends and family members behave and communicate can have a huge positive impact to them (Deafblind UK, 2020).
